About Us
Our Community
The only way to find out what we’re like is to come to one of our events. What you’ll find is a thriving, friendly community of practising Buddhists from a range of lifestyles and backgrounds. Each of us is working out how to transform our lives through meditation, friendship, and Buddhist teachings.
Buddhism in Oxford is still in its early days. We want Buddhist wisdom and compassion to play a much bigger role in Oxford's life and culture. Since 2012 we've been running weekly meditation and Buddhism classes, courses, and study groups for all levels of experience; host Buddhist festival days and a couple of weekend retreats per year. This is just the beginning - come along and see whether you'd like to be part of our next phase.
We meet at:
Peace House
19 Paradise Street

We're just one of many centres of the Triratna Buddhist Community, an international Buddhist movement based in over 20 countries.
Our Teacher
We base our approach to Buddhism on the teachings of Urgyen Sangharakshita (1925-2018).
Born in London, he lived as a Buddhist monk in India for twenty years before returning to the West in the late 1960s to found what became the Triratna Buddhist Community and Order. Known for his creative and sometimes provocative style, Sangharakshita is widely regarded as one of the key figures in the spread of Buddhism to the West. You can find out more about his life and teachings at sangharakshita.org.
