About Us

Our Community

The Oxford Buddhist Centre is the hub of a thriving, friendly community of practising Buddhists. We run weekly meditation and Buddhism classes, courses, and study groups for all levels of experience, host Buddhist festival days, and run a couple of weekend retreats per year.

We meet at
Peace House
19 Paradise Street
Oxford
OX1 1LD

We're just one of many centres of the Triratna Buddhist Community, an international Buddhist movement based in over 20 countries.

Our Teacher

We base our approach to Buddhism on the teachings of Urgyen Sangharakshita (1925-2018).

Born in Tooting in London, England, he lived as a Buddhist monk in India for twenty years before returning to the West in the late 1960s to found what became the Triratna Buddhist Community and Order. Known for his creative and sometimes provocative style, Sangharakshita is widely regarded as one of the key figures in the spread of Buddhism to the West. You can find out more about his life and teachings at sangharakshita.org.
