Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book?

It's a drop-in class so feel free to join on the evening itself. If it's your first time, you might want to arrive at 6.15pm or so to get settled in.

How much does it cost?

We run all our events by donation, so give as much or as little as you like. We prefer card/contactless but we can take cash too - equally, feel free to have a meditation on us!

What should I wear?

It depends on the weather... Though, as the evenings can get cool quite quickly, best to err on the side of warm, loose-fitting, and comfortable.

What do I need to bring?

We'll be sitting in front of two ash trees on the grass on the far side of Botley Park. If you want to sit on the floor, you should bring a firm cushion (or two) or stool, a picnic rug or equivalent, and anything else you need to stay warm. Or alternatively bring a camping/light chair.

Do I need to know how to meditate already?

No, everything will be explained as we go along.

What happens if it rains?

In the event of rain, we'll put an update on this page and relocate to our usual venue, Peace House, 19 Paradise St, Oxford, OX1 1LD

Walk me through what'll exactly happen...

As you head over to the far side of the park, you might meet someone else who's on their way too. When we see you we'll wave to show where we are. People will probably be talking and setting up their seats as you arrive - feel free to join in the conversations and ask questions.

After that, each evening will be different, but most will include a short Buddhist ritual to kick off the event, led meditations, some movement, and some discussion. We'll end with any notices, a request for donations, and head off in our own time.

Is this right for me?

Our activities are not suitable for everyone. Buddhism and meditation bring us face-to-face with deep questions about our lives, which can sometimes be uncomfortable. If you’re in any doubt about whether now’s the right time for you to come along, email us at oxfordtriratna@gmail.com.

Where to Find Us

We'll be in front of the twin ash trees on the far side of Botley Park from the West Oxford Community Centre. Parking is free, but access is only from the West end of Botley Road (owing to the closure at the train station).
